SnT in a Box: Free/Open source software compilation for Science Teaching

Finally, an initial release of SnT in Box software compilation.

Today, CPU is announcing availability of a compilation of Free and Open Source Software tools that can be used by science teachers. The compilation was inspired by similar earlier initiatives like NGO-in-a-Box of Tactical Tech.

ICT (4E): Positioning ICT to develop basic science and mathematics education

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has been proclaimed as the leading growing sector of the economy.

Different projects were initiated to support this growth. The Cyber Corridor project is one of them. It also highlights programs in education using ICT to improve the education system of the country through the Cyber Education project. The latter, despite the controversies born with it was still pushed by the government for implementation.

ICT in science and mathematics education

Growth in the information and communications and technology (ICT) sector has been targeted as a major growth area by the government. Just recently, the Central Luzon Cyber Corridor, one of five Super Regions planned by the government, has been touted to be “an oasis of hope” in the face of the global economic meltdown. Its vision is simple: build more business process outsourcing centers a.k.a call centers not only in so-called science parks within Metro Manila but also in the provinces around the country.
