Facebook has become an essential tool for young adults to stay in contact with friends and family and to create a sense of community with their peers. A total of 57 Special Science Elementary Schools were given financial assistance by the Department of Education to support science curriculum and programs. Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Jesli Lapus calls for the optimum
use of information and communication technology to deliver quality education
and enhance institutional efficiency worthy of the 21st century.
Lapus sounded the call during the National Educators Congress in Baguio City
where he also cited the department’s effort to provide ICT-enriched learning
materials, internet connectivity and computer laboratories to public schools
through the assistance of the private sector.

This strategy increases students’ interest not only in their computer education subjects but also in other subject areas. A total of 16 public elementary schools in Tuguegarao City now use mobile phone technology in its education system through the Text2Teach program, a private sector-led project that, since 2003, has helped over 250 schools nationwide.

CED receives 120K grant, ICT team presenters at Intel Teach National Preservice Conference

MSU-IIT, College of Education receives PhP 120,00 grant from Intel Philippines under Intel Education Program during the first Intel Teach Preservice Conference last February 12, 2009 in Bohol. This was awarded in appreciation for the college's engagement in fostering an enabling environment for the Intel Teach Community of Learning in the region. This amount is to be spent for capacity building initiatives of the college according to CED dean Lydie D. Paderanga, Ph.D.

ICT in Education

Countries in the Asia & and the Pacific region are at different stages of ICT development, in terms of both infrastructure and application of ICT in teaching and learning. Within any such country, there may be an uneven development from region to region, area to area and even from institution to institution. The Asia and the Pacific Region has a wide range of ICT development stages in education. ICTs applied in education offer huge potential to stimulate and realize the human capital inherent in the number of people in the Asia Pacific region.
