Workshop on trends and development in basic science and mathematics education in the Philippines
CPU is a network of information and communications technology professionals who advocate ICT for development. We are initiating various activities which promote the use of ICT to the different sectors of society based on their needs and requirements.
One of our programs is the Basic SnT in a Box project which aims to develop a set of interactive materials using free open source softwares in science and mathematics that can help students understand many concepts of the said focal subjects and will empower high school instructors to teach basic sciences in a new way. Through this, we intend to contribute in the development of basic science and mathematics education in our country.
A component of the Basic SnT in a Box initiative is a workshop on trends and development in basic science and mathematics education in the Philippines. The CPU and IBON Partnership in Education for Development (IPED) are organizing the workshop. This will be on 15 May 2008 at Balay Kalinaw, UP Diliman, Quezon City.
In line with this, we would like to invite your institution to be part of the workshop. The objectives for this activity are:
1. To pull together the good practices and effective teaching methods which can be
replicated for the use of the education sector;
2. To have an initial list of instructional tools which are appropriate and will best
explain the difficult concepts in science and mathematics; and
3. To initiate the formation of a community of educators and ICT professionals which
will actively work on the creation of apt and effective methods and materials which can
help in improving the state of the basic science and mathematics education.
For more information, the concept paper on this activity is provided below.
We hope you will be able to join us in this project. We look forward to your positive response.
